NESSUS®
FAQ

What are the system requirements for running NESSUS?

The current release of NESSUS is available on Windows NT/2000/XP, HP-UX 11.x, IRIX 6.5, and Solaris 7/8. It is always recommended that your platform have the latest patches, but some specific system patches are known to be required:

Windows NT 4, 2000, XP

No specific patches are known to be required for the Windows NT and derivative operating systems, but it is always recommended to have the latest "Service Packs" from Microsoft installed.

The Compaq Visual Fortran Compiler version 6.6a is required to compile and link the NESSUS user subroutines.

To make use of the future 3D features of NESSUS you will need a 1GHz or better PC with a 3D accellerator video card supporting OpenGL 1.3. NESSUS is known to work well with video cards with nVidia chipsets, specifically the GeForce 2/Quadro 2 or later chipsets.

How do I pre-install Java? (advanced)

Pre-installation of Java on your system allows the use of the smaller installtion package "without JVM", and allows the availability of Java for other applications.

Java pre-installation will be required to use the upcoming 3D features of NESSUS.

NESSUS has been validated against the 1.3.1 version of Java. Sun Microsystems has released version 1.4, but several bugs have been found in that release which affect the performance of NESSUS.
